Important events in the life of Ted Carlson during his military career in the United States Army. The majority of the collection is correspondence between Ted Carlson and his family and friends.

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORY NOTE:
Ted Carlson lived during the 20th Century. World War II was being fought and ted Carlson was drafted into the United States Army. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was in office as the 23rd President, during Ted Carlson’s time in service. Ted Carlson lived through the depression and a tough economic time for America. He constantly sent food stamps home to his parents when he did not need them. The creation of the atomic bomb led to many catastrophic events in history during this time period. FDR passed away while in office in 1945 and Vice President Truman took office as President. Victory was achieved in 1945 as well and brought much happiness to ted Carlson. While in service Ted Carlson was able to work mainly in the United States and continuously wrote home to his mother and father. Unfortunately his mother passed away in 1947.  
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE:
The Ted Carlson of Middleton, CT Records 1944-1947 follow the life of Ted Carlson, while in service to the United States Army during World War II. Letters and military records are included. The majority of the records date from 1944-1945.
Series I follows Ted Carlson’s life while attending Weselyen University and during his drafting into the United States Army, through his correspondence to friends and family. The majority of the documents are letters to and from his parents. Correspondence to other University friends as well as military acquaintances are provided. Ted Carlson’s suspicions he will be drafted even though he is attending school are documented. Information on the draft procedure and his movement through the United States with the Army are included in the correspondence.
Series II focuses on the military life of Ted Carlson. There are a variety of documents from his original draft letter to his request to be let out of the Army. Meal passes and medical records are included as well.
Series III includes all documents pertinent to his attending Weselyen University as well as Iowa State University. Meal cards, letter from the president and ID cards document Ted Carlson’s life at school.
